Description
Sympodium Blue
Sympodium is a soft coral in the Xeniidae family. These corals are similar to Xenia and star polyps but are not such prolific growers. They grow into small cauliflower lumps and not a creeping membrane like GSP. They have Jade Green polyps that emerge from a blue flesh body. Typically, Sympodium will be open during the day and then tentacles will retract at night. They receive most of their nutrients from their photosynthetic algae, zooxanthellae. It is peaceful coral and is usually fine within close proximity to other corals. They do not have sweeping tentacles to bother nearby corals and like most Xeniidae are tolerant of corals that do.
