The SPS (Small Polyp Stony) corals have much smaller polyps than the LPS corals. LPS polyps are larger and more fleshier. SPS corals are usually either branching, plating or encrusting and for the most part enjoy moderate to bright light and Medium to strong currents. They come in all stunning bright colours and even some fantastic combinations.
SPS corals used to be considered very challenging and considered only for the experienced aquarist. But with new discoveries and improvements in technology in the last couple of decades or so have brought them into the realm of the average aquarist. Nowadays it is not uncommon to see aquariums with various species of acropora, montipora, and other species of SPS corals growing and thriving.
We aqua culture all are SPS which has increased their aquarium tolerance. Most of our SPS have been in our collection for 10+years. Some still have varying tolerances, but if we can’t keep it we won’t sell it.
